Today was a very busy day, I had scheduled four tours of day cares. Seeing that Fridays are Colin's only weekday off and that I only have three Fridays open before I go back(oh my this is happening a little fast) we had to get on the ball for this. We ended up going to five different centers. The original four were all out by the house. while had our favorites here, there was a slight problem of traffic. You see I will be the one picking up and dropping off and I work about 15 miles away from our house. And with traffic that can turn into an hour commute IF there are no delays or accidents. Most centers close at 6pm and I get off at 5pm. Colin will be on a 48 hr on 96 hr off schedule, so once he goes to work he cannot leave to come help me pick up Braylon. So as you can see I could be cutting it close. Plus I know the hours are 8am to 5pm but I am not sure how many late nights there will be. So the fifth center was one that is very close to my work. It is actually only 10 mins away if there is really bad traffic! When we looked at the original four there were two centers that we walked away from that we liked. That was it, we liked them. However, this fifth one we both could barely wait until we got to the car before we both proclaimed how much we LOVED it. I see this being a place Braylon WANTS to go. It is a Montessori school. I love the idea of kids exploring at their own rate and learning through exploration, even though some teachers do not. All of the head teachers in the class have either bachelors or masters degrees in early childhood education, plus they have their Montessori certification. And the center is Nationally accredited. Everything and so much more that I wanted.
The thing that really got to me was the lady giving us the tour asked about me. She asked if this would be the first time I would leave Braylon in a daycare setting. Which yes it is. She then handed me a bunch of resources and talked to me about what to expect and how to take a few weeks to adjust. I loved that she understood that this is going to be hard on me. Harder on me than Braylon. And seemed to really care about helping to make the transition smooth. The school also have live streaming video in the lobby of the building. I can come in and watch him with disturbing him or the class. I can also call as much as I want to check on him! I might be that crazy mom in the beginning but I like that she let me know that it is okay and they will not get annoyed by me calling or dropping by!
Oh and best of all, an AMAZING price!
Ahhh I feel a lot better. I am going to sign him up on Monday. Now to get my mind ready for the transition.
