That's right we did it. We made sugar cookies, like 4 million of them, today with THREE toddlers. I know crazy right?! And guess what we all survived, the house is still sanding and no one got hurt. Once again a success in my book.
I found the recipe on Pinterest and it claimed that it was close to those really big, soft sugar cookies you can buy at the store. I love those cookies! So we got out the ingredients and went to work. Sarah helped me make the dough while Melinda was on baby watching duty.

The dough was extra sticky. I tried adding more flour and blending but it was just not happening. The blender kept getting stuck. Man I wish I had a KitchenAid Mixer (hint, hint, oh who am I kidding he does not read this!) Anyway, Melinda suggested that I get it out of the bowl and put the flour on that way. It was so hard to get it out!
Finally, we got it not sticky, rolled out and cut into very cute Christmas shapes. The recipe called for the cookies to not be over baked at all. They were to not get brown. These are SOFT cookies and could not be over cooked.

Once a few batches were down, I made some buttrecream frosting and got the kids undressed. We knew that messy would be an understatement. Each kid got a cookie and then they had a bowl of frosting to share.

The attempt at frosting did not go very well. The kids destroyed their cookies and then just ate the frosting from the bowl. Braylon and Tanner loved it. Audrey was more indifferent to the whole cookie frosting process. Tanner even got to the point to where he would scream if Melinda tried to take the bowl away. It was quite funny.
We then cleaned up the kids and got to frosting the remaining cookies! There are so many!
The only negative of the afternoon was that Melinda and Sarah only took a total of 18 cookies! I am left with the rest. I guess I have to find something to do with them :)
My dad ate one and LOVED it! I told him they were totally homemade. I guess you will have to give them to your dead neighbors or the camera man/weed wacker. :o)
ReplyDeleteHaha I should leave them a plate and see what happens :) Colin is loving them too!
