The One year doctor appointment

This morning was Braylon's one year well baby visit. I look forward to these visits because I like knowing how much he has grown and I really LOVE our pediatrician. She is quite simply amazing! Anyway, so we went and Braylon was his adorable, charming self. All the women in the office, including our pediatrician, want to keep him in the office, even after he got all five of his shots! Shots do not phase this boy a bit. He cries while he is being poked and for a few seconds later but as soon as we pick him up he is back to his old self once again. The nice thing is that after shots Braylon usually sleeps away most of the day! And boy do we need naps today after getting up at 6am with him! Anyway, we got the go ahead to think about whole milk, but since it does not really agree with his little tummy, we were told to try soy or even two percent. However, if he still does not do well then it is fine just to give him yogurt and cheese. I feel a lot better knowing this. Since we are still breastfeeding, and I am SO over pumping, we do not have a way to gradually mix in the whole milk. The overload tends to do his stomach in. I think we are going to try soy this week and see what happens!

Oh and here is some great news, Braylon is a big boy. He is 21 pounds and 9 ounces (between the 25th and 50th percentiles) and get this he is 30.75 inches long (the 75th percentile)! He is going to be one tall boy! But then again his daddy is quite tall. The funny thing is that Braylon's cousin Delu is 21 months and he is roughly 32 inches long and 27 pounds. It looks like in no time Braylon will be taller than him. Also on a sad note my one year old is almost half of my height:( I am predicting that by five he will be taller than me too!

While in the office, Braylon kept pointing to stuff and saying "what is that?" Our doctor was shocked! Not many one year old's say that stuff with the clarity that he does! Since his nine month appointment me and Colin have been working hard on talking with him. He was behind verbally there. Now he is way above the curb! Oh and once preemie babies reach a year they should be back on target with their full term counter parts. I would have to say that Braylon is on par with them if not ahead in some areas! It makes me feel good to know that he is no longer at preemie status!

It was a good appointment and it was nice to have some of my concerns put to rest!

What else has Braylon been up to...
  • Still wears a size 3 diaper
  • Wears mostly nine and twelve mo clothes. Some twelve mo pants are too tight in the waist
  • Wears size 4 shoes
  • Has more blond fuzz coming in
  • Can stand on his own and walking while holding very lightly to something
  • Loves to laugh!
  • Plays peek-a-boo all the time
  • Know how to give kisses and even says it
  • Tries to use forks and spoons while eating, just takes awhile to finish a meal
  • Knows touchdown
  • Is always saying 'what is that' and 'I did it'
  • Knows where his eyes are and says it when he touches them
  • Still nursing, though the frequency is decreasing
I am sure that there is a ton more of stuff but I am drawing a blank right now.
