I Survived....

Braylon's first flu like bug! Now this happened on Friday and Saturday and I am just now writing about it because I wanted to give it the proper attention it deserves. So Friday morning Colin and I are awoken to the sound of puking at 530 in the morning. We clean it up and think that it was just a fluke. He had never thrown up before. Also he had no fever. So once all cleaned I lay back down with Braylon and nurse him again. Well as soon as he feel asleep it all came up again. I had him off to Colin, where he throws up on Colin this time. So off to the tub he goes. We put him in his duck bath and filled it with warm water and let him get cleaned and play. The weird thing about this throwing up was that he did not have a fever and once he was done throwing up he would go right back to playing, smiling and laughing. It did not scare him either. The rest of the day he seemed to be fine. We went to lunch at Flying Star with my mom, sister and Nana and he was as good as he could be. So we all come back to my place to get ready for the graduation. I have taken my shower and was doing my hair when I hear my mom scream my name. I come running into the living room to see Braylon throwing up once again. Like the times in the morning, still no fever and still his same little self. Colin's mom offers to stay at my place and watch him while I graduate. I know that would have been the best option but I really wanted my little boy to be there. I wanted to take pictures with him and I wanted some of my professors to meet him. Not everyone can get a masters with an eight month old. So we take him. He was perfect the entire graduation. We decide that it would be okay to go to dinner then too. In the middle of dinner at Buca Di Beppo he threw up all over me. I felt so bad for the waiter. However, after this time Braylon seems to be fine once again. Saturday we go to breakfast with my mom, sister and Nana and he was an angle. We decide to see a movie that afternoon. On our way to the theater it happens again. So I clean it all up. It was in every nook and cranny on that car seat. I decided it was time to call the doctor. seeing as it was a Saturday, I called Braylon's pediatrician's office to get some advice from the nurse line. We were concerned with dehydration. He had dried lips and and was really wanting something to drink. We were told that he was to have a tablespoon of pedialyte every five mins for four hours. then he could nurse five mins, only one side, every thirty to sixty minutes for two hours. If he threw up during that we had to start the process all over again. After eight hours free of throwing up he could return to regular nursing, twelve hours free could have cereal and twenty-four hours he could resume solids. The first six hours were the hardest. Braylon does not take a bottle and is still working on a sippy cup. The only way to get the pedialyte in was with a medicine dropper. That was fun. The five minutes of nursing was trying to. He was so hungry and tired and five minutes was not cutting it. Finally toward the end of the two hours I said screw it and let him nurse himself to sleep. We made it though and he has not thrown up since Saturday afternoon. Yay!! It was not a good weekend for him to get sick but we both survived to see the other side. I am glad I had the help of my mom, Nana and sister. I could not have survived without them and the support of Colin.
Happy, Happy post puking baby.
